Psychoanalysis, as mentioned, plays its instrumental role, sustaining some of the hypotheses presented by the article. The field of Comparative Literature is the critical and theoretical perimeter by which the article proposal develops itself. The fictional arguments used by the narrator of the novel are the key to the return to Camões, this time, unusual for the proposed intertextual articulation. Based on this assumption, the article develops seeking to point out how the fictional reading, which the text of the novel presents, leaves open the possibility of re-reading of Camões himself. The movement privileges the intertextual outline of the “reading” that the narrator of the novel offers the reader. The present article tries to analyze this fictionalization – the one realized by the novel – approaching the text of the novel by the bias of Psychoanalysis. The novel by Frederico Lourenço, Pode um desejo imenso (2005), offers an opportunity to return to Camões, this time, through a fictionalized reading. It can such a literature? 5/27/2023 0 Comments Pet by C.S. PacatPacat is that she can make a reader fall in love with two characters in the span of 40 pages. Seriously, he is now one of my favourite characters of the series, and I can’t believe how talented a writer C.S. When I first read Captive Prince, I thought Ancel had been at court for years, but as we learn in Pet, Ancel had just arrived with his ‘master’, Berenger. He starts the short story as a prostitute and rises to the position of a Lord’s lover, or ‘Pet’. I love his ambition, how he knows want he wants in life and will do anything to achieve it. So yeah, you can see why I was a little apprehensive about reading a four-chapter story from his perspective, but, my god, the guy was awesome. We all remember Ancel, right? A Pet from the first book, Captive Prince, who flirts with the R*gent … and participates in sexually assaulting Damen (on Laurent’s orders, although Damen blamed Ancel for the incident). No one was more surprised than me when I fell in love with the MC, Ancel. Pacat, but I’ll be honest, I was not looking forward to returning to the toxic world of the first book in the series, which this final short story does.īut I still read it, because it’s the last book in the Captive Prince series and that series means more to me than anything. I was kinda ‘ meh‘ about the whole thing. There were many of us who were dreading the final story, many of us who were irked at the chosen MC, and just as much who trusted in the author and were excited. So the final short story in the Captive Prince series almost divided the fandom. 5/27/2023 0 Comments Maddaddam margaret atwood“Although MaddAddam is a work of fiction, it does not include any technologies or biobeings that do not already exist, are not under construction, or are not possible in theory.” Saying that though – in her acknowledgements Margaret Atwood states that… It’s really hard to review the final book in a trilogy that other people may not have read – as a whole it’s a trilogy that is extraordinary in its scope and imagination. While the events in Oryx and Crake and Year of the Flood run parallel to each other – MaddAddam moves the story of characters like Jimmy, Toby and Zeb forward. It helped to refresh my memory a bit – although I have to say Year of the Flood has really stayed with me and remains my favourite of the three books. I have spaced out the three volumes quite widely – so I was pleased to see a little rounding up of the main points of each of the first two books in the front of this. My third read for this year’s #MARM was MaddAddam the final book in the trilogy of the same name. Drawn to his side by a bond so sudden and compelling it overshadowed reason, Dougless knew that Nicholas was nothing less than a miracle: a man who would not seek to change her, who found her perfect, fascinating, just as she was. Tall, broad of shoulder, attired in gleaming silver and gold, he was magnificent. He was Nicholas Stafford, Earl of Thornwyck.and according to his tombstone he had died in1564. Suddenly, as if in answer to her prayers, the most extraordinary man appeared. Abandoned by a cruel fate, lovely, thoroughly modern Dougless Montgomery lay weeping upon a cold tombstone in an English church. So I am here to aggressively try and get my GR friends to read it. This book has too few ratings on the GR page. Lucían is clearly kinky but has no frame of reference for it and that's what the couple will undoubtedly be discovering / working through in the next book, aside from the adventure they'll be on. I'm hoping it gets more into Glory's head and fleshes out her character, because as other reviewers have noted she's a bit too perfect in this book - but I attribute much of that to Lucían's intense and inexperienced adoration. The first book ends in an HFN, though, so no cliffhanger worries. I'm looking forward to the sequel to this duology. I felt like all of that was handled with the gravity it merited. There's a lot in here about conservative Christianity's sexuality shaming, because of Lucían's upbringing in an abusive conservative monastery. (Not lying.) I didn't realize when I picked it up that the She-Wolf, whose real name is Glory, is what I would describe as pan from how she talks about herself. It's all from Lucían's POV and his character voice is so fantastic that I had to put it down for a few days because I was jealous. Queer F/M fantasy romance that pairs a shy, slight archivist monk named Lucían with a tall, strapping warrior woman called the She-Wolf in an alternate historical fantasy Europe with different names for countries and cultures, and also with magic and unicorns. He said he “didn’t want to tell people what to think”, but wanted them to think independently about the recurrence of extreme events in history and what causes them. He used the graphic novel as a means of inspiring real thought in people. Moore himself is openly an anarchist, and this viewpoint is set in direct opposition to murderous fascism in V for Vendetta. The Guy Fawkes masked donned by hacker group Anonymous and left-wing protestors, such as the Occupy movement, was plucked from the mysterious protagonist ‘V’, the anarchist revolutionary who dons a Guy Fawkes mask in the comic. V for Vendetta is arguably his most famous creation, even if the people it affects aren’t directly aware of it. 5/26/2023 0 Comments Jenkins textual poachersOne of the challenges of producing this edition was the struggle to come up with the right approach to the cover design. (well, never mind that part!) When I wrote this book as a first year assistant professor, I would never have anticipated the impact it would have and I certainly would not have imagined that Routledge would be willing to reissue it to mark the twentieth anniversary of its publication. This book, my first, is now twenty years old (meaning that it is old enough to drink and vote) and that means that I am old enough to. This past week, I received in the mail my author's copy of my book, Textual Poachers: Television Fans and Participatory Culture. 5/26/2023 0 Comments Mother Jones by Elliott J. GornThe statement walks a tightrope, but not well. It is disappointing and painful, but unsurprising… They have always respected the privacy of this young man and his family. The Thomases have rarely spoken publicly about the remarkably generous efforts to help a child in need. STATEMENT OF MARK PAOLETTA, FRIEND OF JUSTICE THOMAS But for a sense of what a defense of his failure to disclose these gifts might sound like, look no further than a statement issued by his friend Mark Paoletta, a conservative lawyer who has worked in multiple Republican presidential administrations and is literally the man sitting next to Thomas in the center of a painting Crow once commissioned. Thomas himself did not respond to ProPublica’s queries. The half-baked justifications, and the people who rally around them, are a kind of blueprint for the way this whole world operates. In addition to inviting the Supreme Court justice on expensive vacations on his superyacht, buying Thomas’ mother’s house, and letting her live there rent-free, Crow also spent roughly $100,000 on private-school tuition for Thomas’ great nephew-for whom the justice and his wife, Ginni, served as legal guardians. On Thursday, ProPublica dropped a major new story about Clarence Thomas’ relationship with Texas conservative megadonor Harlan Crow.
